Dr. Moir was trained as a Civil Engineer in the City Engineer's Office, Aberdeen. Thereafter he gained experience in consulting work in Glasgow. He was a member of the staff in the New Works Department of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway before engaging in contracting work in England.

He joined the staff of the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, in 1928 and is now a Senior Lecturer and Research Leader in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering.
