Camborne School of Mines
1888 Founded
1890 The principal is J. J. Beringer. 'The above School his been formed for giving instruction in subjects specially applicable to Mining Students, and in a district where the practice of Mining may be observed at the same time. The subjects taught include Mining, Ore Dressing. Vanning, Assaying, Chemistry, Geology, Mineralogy, Metallurgy, Map Drawing, &c. The Managers of the principal Mines in the neighbourhood afford facilities to Students of the School for studying Practical Mining. '[1]
1897 King Edward Mine is leased from the Pendarves family to complement the facilities available to students for practical exercises. Abandoned in 1924 due to flooding.
1899 J. J. Beringer was principal.[2]
1909 Became part of the Cornwall School of Metalliferous Mining
1960 The new Principal is R. A. Georges replacing G. A. Whitworth.[3]
1982 'Such has been the demand for places that Camborne School of Mines could enrol a record number of 250 new students when term begins next month'.[4]
1988 The principal is Dr. Peter Hackett.[5]
1993 Merged in to the University of Exeter
1996 Plan for Camborne School of Mines, part of Exeter University, being moved to a new University of Cornwall campus proposed for Penzance.[6]
