Cape Government Railways

1874 Cape Government Railways was formed as the government-owned railway operator in the Cape Colony.
c.1884 constructed the Queenstown and Aliwal North Railway, 90 miles in length.
1910 The railways of the Cape of Good hope are owned by the Government and consist of the Western system (1,277 miles), Midland system (1,197 miles), and the Eastern system (780 miles). Total 3,262 miles. Officers: Gregory and Eyles, Consulting Engineers; T. S. McEwen, General manager; A. J. Robb, Assistant GM; A. G. Dalton, Engineer-in-Chief; H. Beatty, Chief Locomotive Superintendent; G. C. S. Clark, Chief Traffic Manager.[1]
1910 Absorbed into the South African Railways on its formation.
