1877 After reading an article, Gustaf de Laval started work on the development of a centrifugal separator
1878 Patent on improvement in apparatus for separating fluids of different gravities
1879 Demonstrated the first continuous separator,in Stockholm. This separator had a capacity of 130 litres per hour.
c.1881 He had applied motive power to drive the separator
1883 Patented an engine based on the concepts first described by Hero.
1883 Gustaf de Laval and his partner, Oscar Lamm, established the AB Separator company. The De Laval Cream Separator Co. was formed in the USA.
1889 Patented the single stage geared impulse turbine for which he became famous.
During his lifetime, Gustaf de Laval acquired 92 Swedish patents and founded 37 companies. He was not only an outstanding inventor; he was a man who saw no limitations to what could be achieved by research. His inventions have lived on and evolved to create work for millions of people around the world[1]
