Dr. CARL REIMAR EUGEN WOHRMAN, of Attleboro, Mass., U.S.A., died on August 30,1938. Born at Saarema, Esthonia, on September 16, 1897, he received his scientific training at Harvard University; he obtained the degrees of B.S. in metallurgy in 1924, Min. Eng. in 1925, Met. Eng. in 1926 and Sc.D. in metallurgy in 1927. He held several scholarships at that University.
He first held the post of private assistant in mathematics and mechanics, but later became consulting research engineer to the American Rolling Mill Company in 1926; he left that firm in order to study at the Optical Institute, Jena, Germany, during 1927 and 1928 under a National Research Fellowship. He next held
OBITUARY, a post on the research staff of the Bell Telephone Laboratories, New York, from September, 1928, until July, 1929, and was operating manager of the Alpine West Electric Company, Switzerland, from then until November, 1930, when he joined the General Plate Company, Attleboro, as research director, a position which he held at the time of his death.
Dr. Wohrman was the author of several technical papers, including papers on iron-manganese alloys and inclusions in iron. He received the Henry Marion Howe Medal in 1929.
He was a member of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, the American Society for Metals, the American Society for Testing Materials and the Institute of Metals ; he joined the Iron and Steel Institute in 1926.

CARL REIMAR EUGEN WOHRMAN. Dr. Carl Wohrman, Director of Research of General Plate Company, Attleboro, Mass., U.S.A., died on August 30, 1938.
He was born at Saarema, Esthonia, on September 16, 1897, the son of Carl John and Amelia Wohrman, and received his scientific training at Harvard University, obtaining the degrees of B.S. in metallurgy in 1924, Min. Eng. in 1925, Met. Eng. in 1926, and Sc.D. in metallurgy in 1927. He held several scholarships at Harvard University, and was a member of Tau Beta Phi.
After holding the post of private assistant in mathematics and mechanics, he became Consulting Research Engineer to the American Rolling Mill Company in 1926, but left to carry out studies at the Optical Institute, Jena, Germany, during 1927 and 1928 under a National Research Fellowship. From September 1928 until July 1929, he was on the research staff of the Bell Telephone Laboratories, New York; he was Operating Manager of the Alpine West Electric Company, Switzerland, from July 1929 until November 1930, when he joined the General Plate Company, Attleboro, Mass., U.S.A., as Research Director, a position which he held until his death. Dr. Wohrman was the author of several technical papers, including papers on iron-manganese alloys (American Institute of Mining Engineers, 1927) and inclusions in iron (American Society for Steel Treating, 1928).
