Carpenter and Westley

c1808 Philip Carpenter began making "magic lanterns" in Birmingham
Later William Westley (b. 1807) started to work for Carpenter.
c1827 The business was moved to London where William Westley rejoined his employer, first as foreman, then as partner
c1836 When dissolving views were first invented, William Westley put them before the public but the method of their production was kept secret.
Westley employed the best artists to paint the slides including Thomas Kearnan and Henry Childe, who claimed the invention of the dissolving views.
Westley eventually became the principal of the business.
1887 Westley died and was buried in Highgate Cemetery.
