CHARLES ALFRED PRATT was born at Halifax on 5th April 1868.

He was educated at Heath Grammar School, Halifax, and later entered the works of F. Pratt and Co., machine-tool makers, Halifax.

In 1891 he went to open the London office of the business, and in 1897 was appointed a Director of the firm on its incorporation as a limited company.

About four years ago, failing health compelled him to take a less active part in the business, and his death occurred at Lewisham on 7th February 1919, in his fifty- first year.

He was elected a Member of this Institution in 1910.
