Charles Davies was born in 1858 and was apprenticed to the engineering trade with the firm of Platt Brothers and Co of Oldham.

After occupying various positions with the firms of Asa Lees and Co, Bradbury and Co, and the General Electric Co, he joined Foden in 1904, with which firm he remained until his retirement some five years ago. His death, from cancer, took place on January 16th, 1922.

He was elected a Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1908.
