Mr. C. E. Burton (Member), served an apprenticeship with T. Coulthard and Son, Ltd., Preston, and concurrently received his technical training at the Harris Technical College, Preston, afterwards serving with the English Electric Co., Ltd. (then Dick Kerr, Ltd.), Preston, and Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby.
From 1914 to 1919 he served with the British Expeditionary Force in France and the Balkans.
In 1922, after a period with Vulcan Motors, Ltd., Southport, he joined Karrier Motors, Ltd., Huddersfield, as assistant to the chief engineer. From 1926 to 1929 he was engaged in the experimental design department of Tilling-Stevens, Ltd., and, from 1929 to 1930, was in the research department of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., Chiswick.
From 1930 to 1935 he was works manager and chief engineer of Gilford Motors, Ltd., High Wycombe, and from 1935 to date he has been chief designer to Transport Equipment (Thornycroft), Ltd., Basingstoke.
