1848 Born in Birmingham, son of Edward Alfred Cowper and his wife Juliana; baptised in Hammersmith.

Studied at Kings College, London, for 1 year.

c.1865 Pupil for 2 years at the Nine Elms Works of the L S W R

Supervised the erection of the gas works at Weston-super-Mare

c.1868 On the staff of Dr C. W. Siemens for 5 years involved in the layout and supervised erection of plant for making iron and steel at Dowlais, Ebbw Vale and elsewhere, including for the making of "Siemens Steel"; supervised the erection of works for the Steel Company of Scotland near Glasgow.

c.1873 Became assistant to his father, designing and arranging steam engines, boilers, etc at locations in Britain and abroad.

1874 Became an Associate of Inst Civil Engineers

1880 Became a Member of I Mech E

1891 Charles E Cooper 42, civil engineer, lived in Richmond with Marie M Cooper 40, Edith W Cooper 8, Alfred D Cooper 7[1]

1893 His father took him into partnership shortly before his death.

1904 Resigned from I Mech E

1911 Charles Edward Cowper 62, house owner letting furnished houses, lived in Deal with Maud Mary Cowper 60, Edith Nova Cowper 28, and his sister in law, Kate Annie Cooper 56[2]

1929 Died in Lewisham, aged 80[3]
