CHARLES EDWARD SMITH was born in England on the 6th June, 1877, and went out to Argentina with his parents at the age of 12.
After spending three or four years in the telegraph department of the Buenos Aires and Rosario Railway, he joined, in 1896, the River Plate Electric Light and Traction Co. as engineer in connection with their power station at Buenos Aires.
In 1899 he went to Rosario as engineer for the same company, who were then beginning to supply electricity in that town, and he retained that position until May 1910.
After that date, until his death on the 2nd January, 1929, he was engaged in commercial work in connection with electrical engineering in Buenos Aires and Rosario.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1905, and a Member in 1910.
