Charles Erichsen Drew Greenhalgh, who died on the 11th July, 1951, was born on the 18th June, 1884. He received his early education at Stockport Grammar School; his engineering education at Leeds Technical School and the Yorkshire College (now Leeds University); and his practical training at Leeds Corporation electricity works. On completing his training, in 1904, he went to the Wakefield Corporation Electricity Dept. as a shift charge engineer; three years later he was appointed Deputy Electrical Engineer at Malvern; and in 1910, Resident Electrical Engineer with the Lancashire County Council. From 1913 to 1929 he was Deputy Electrical Engineer in the Watford Corporation Electricity Dept., and from December, 1929, until vesting day he was Chief Engineer and Manager of Ilkley Urban District Council electricity undertaking. He was for many years a member of the Executive Committee of the Mid-Eastern Area of the British Electrical Development Association.

He joined The Institution as an Associate Member in 1909 and was elected a Member in 1943.
