CHARLES FREDERICK MOUNTNEY had considerable experience in the drawing offices of various engineering firms in the course of his career, and since 1919 had acted as chief drawing office instructor at the Merchant Venturers' College, Bristol.

He was born in 1885, and received his technical education at the Rutherford and Armstrong Colleges, Newcastle upon Tyne. After serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Clarke, Chapman and Company, Ltd., of Gateshead, from 1900 to 1906, he continued in their employment as draughtsman for a further four years. He was then engaged in a similar capacity until 1916 for Messrs. Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Company, Ltd., of Wallsend.

In addition, his thoughts being turned at an early age towards a career as a teacher, he gave technical instruction at various schools in the Newcastle area during this period. On the termination of a two years' engagement as works engineer to the Conner Magneto and Ignition Company, Ltd., of Coventry, he entered upon his final appointment at Bristol.

Mr. Mountney, whose death occurred on 7th March 1946, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1912.
