Charles Henry Godfrey (1873- )

1922 M.Inst.C.E., Municipal Engineer, Public Works Department, Shanghai, China; b. 1873. Ed. King Edward's School, Camp Hill, near Birmingham. Articled to father, late Robert Godfrey, Engineer and Surveyor to King's Norton Urban District Council. Career: Assistant Surveyor, Northfield Highway Board, 1890; Assistant Engineer, Neath Urban District Council, 1893; Second Engineering Assistant, Manchester Corporation, 1895; Deputy Engineer, Shanghai Municipal Council, 1897; Chief Engineer, Shanghai Municipal Council, 1909; Commissioner of Public Works, Shanghai, 1919. Miller Prize, Institution, of Civil Engineers, 1896-7. Commissioned to investigate methods of sewage disposal in Canada and, America, 1918-9; also in Straits Settlements, 55 Burma and India in 1920. Contributed various papers to Institution of Civil Engineers and Engineering Society of China. President, Engineering Society of China, 1910-I I. Club: Royal Societies. War Services.—China War, 1900 (Medal). Captain, Commanding Engineers, Shanghai Volunteer Corps, and Engineer Staff Officer and Quartermaster.
