. . . . om 1863 to 1865 the subject of this notice was engaged in the office of Edward Woods, Past-President, in Westminster, and from July, 1865, to September, 1871, he was employed on the engineering staff of the Joint Committee of the London and North Western and Great Western Railways at Birkenhead, Shrewsbury and other places.

In September, 1871, Mr. Lean entered the office of Sir Charles Fox and Sons at Westminster, as Chief Assistant, and during the nine years he held that post was engaged on many important undertakings.

Early in 1881 Mr. Lean began to practise on his own account, taking an office at Palace Chambers, Bridge Street, Westminster. In addition to his work as an engineer he acted as London agent . . . . [more]
