CHARLES LLOYD was born in 1865 at Westbury, Gloucester, and served his apprenticeship from 1882 to 1886 with Messrs. Earle's Shipbuilding and Engineering Company of Hull, with whom he remained until 1896 as draughtsman and later as chief draughtsman.
After a short period with Messrs. Samuel White and Company of Cowes he joined Messrs. Browett, Lindley and Company of Patricroft as chief draughtsman and in 1900 was appointed works manager.
In 1906 he commenced business under the title of the Vulcan Engineering Company at Barnes and in 1908 he became engineer to the Harris Pneumatic Suspension Syndicate of New Bond Street and Paris.
From 1911 to 1925 he was associated with Mr. G. Constantinesco and in conjunction with him took out a number of patents in connexion with motor cars. He subsequently carried on consulting work and was so engaged at the time of his death, which occurred on the 16th January 1933.
He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1911.
