1927 Obituary [1]

CHARLES R. WOOD died on June 8, 1927.

He was born in Rome, Italy, on March 1, 1871.

He was educated in the leading private schools in Philadelphia, Pa., U.S.A., and also at Haverford College.

After leaving school he was associated with his father, Edward R. Wood, in the glass business, from which he went to R. D. Wood & Co. in 1890. During the interval he had considerable experience in newspaper and editorial work.

Upon the breaking out of the Spanish War he resigned from R. D. Wood & Co. and entered the Navy. Shortly after the end of the war he returned to R. D. Wood & Co. in 1898, from which time he had charge of the Hydrant and Valve Department, assuming the responsibilities of its growth and development. He was especially active on engineering committees and associations, being one of the Executive Committee of the American Water Works Association, and having charge of Conventions. It was at their Convention in Chicago, Ill., that he passed away.

Mr. Wood was elected a Member of the Institute on December 30, 1925.
