Charles Robert Charles was born in 1875, and after receiving an engineering training in this country proceeded to U.S.A., where he joined The Autocar Co., Ardmore.

From there he went to T. B. Jeffery and Co., Kenosha.

In 1900 he returned to England and was appointed to take charge of constructional work at Dennis Brothers, Guildford, where he subsequently became Assistant Works Manager and then Works Manager.

In 1909 he established the Works of the Lacre Motor Car Co at Letchworth, and in 1911 returned to Dennis Bros., Ltd., to start a new Works.

For some years prior to his death he was Managing Director of Thornycroft, Basingstoke.

He died in August, 1939, at the age of 64.

He was elected a Member in 1912.
