CHARLES ROBERT DUDLEY BORRETT, born on the 11th November, 1870, was the eldest son of the late Captain Thomas Borrett, R.N.
He was educated at Clifton College and received his practical training in the works of Messrs. Maudslay, Sons and Field.
In 1895 he entered the service of Messrs. Walter Basset and Company, and was employed on the design and erection of great wheels at Earl’s Court, Blackpool, Paris and Vienna, a factory at Houdeng, Belgium, and a large ship gantry at Queen’s Island, Belfast.
In 1903 he went out to Bolivia to take charge of the erection of aerial ropeways at great heights in the Andes, where the climatic conditions and the heavy work entailed undermined his health.
He returned home in March, 1905, and died, after a long illness, on the 25th September, 1906, in his thirty-sixth year.
Mr. Borrett was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 8th April, 1902.
