CHARLES ROLAND HONIBALL had a very specialized knowledge and experience of heating and ventilating plant, and had published a number of papers on this subject.
He was born in 1864 and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. David Crawford and Company, marine engineers of Liverpool, from 1878 to 1884, and was later engaged as a journeyman engineer for his firm. He also attended evening classes and lectures and subsequently became a lecturer at the Bootle Technical School. He was also for many years a lecturer at the Liverpool Technical School, and was the author of a book on arithmetic and mensuration.
In 1889 Mr. Honiball joined the Liverpool Engineering and Condenser Company as foreman; he became chief draughtsman for the firm in 1892, and in 1898 was appointed general manager. He was responsible for the design and installation of distilling, heating, pumping, and condensing plants supplied to British and foreign Admiralties and to leading shipbuilders in this country and abroad.
In 1900 Mr. Honiball commenced business for himself, specializing in auxiliary machinery and the manufacture of evaporating and condensing machinery. He constructed a small surface condensing plant for experimental steam-engines in the mechanical laboratory of the Liverpool Municipal Technical School.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1898 and was transferred to Membership in 1901. He was a Past-President of the Institution of Heating and Ventilating Engineers.
His death occurred on 17th April 1932, at Liverpool.
