1905 Obituary [1]

CHARLES SPENCER died at his residence, Cleveland View, Newport Hill, Middlesbrough, on May 23, 1905, in his sixtieth year. He was a native of South Wales, and was, at one time, managing engineer to the Ebbw Vale Ironworks.

In 1871 he was appointed manager of the Malleable Ironworks, Stockton, and subsequently became manager of the West Stockton Ironworks.

In 1898 he was appointed chief engineer at the works of Messrs. John Hill & Co., at Middlesbrough.

He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1889.


1905 Obituary [2] The death is reported of Mr. Charles Spencer, of Middlesbrough, who has been connected with the manufactured iron trade of this district for the last thirty-five years. He was well known in engineering circles on the North East Coast. He was a nat1vo of Wales and at one time was chief engineer at the Ebbw Vale Ironworks. In 1870 he was appointed to a similar position at the Stockton Malleable Ironworks and afterwards he became manager of the West Stockton Ironworks, which position be held until they were stopped and dismantled some seven years ago. Since that time he has been chief engineer at Messrs. John Hill and Co.'s Newport Rolling Mills, Middlesbrough.
