'Next to the canal, between Snow Hill and Water Street, two steam mills are shown, Charles Twigg’s 1779 metal rolling mill and his ex-partner James Pickard's corn mill and bakery. [1]

1798 Sale Notice: 'TO BUTTON-MAKERS: TO be SOLD by AUCTION, on the Premises, by THOMAS WARREN (by direction of the Assignees) on Monday next, the sixth of June instant, the Stock in Trade of finished and unfinished Buttons, Medals, Hardware Goods, Metals of various Kinds, &c. &c. belonging to Mr. Charles Twigg, Button-maker, at Harper's Hill, near Mount-street, Birmingham.
Also on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 12th and 13th Instant, all the Stamps, Presses, Dies, Lathes, Engines, and other the Shop Tools, Warehouse and Compting-house Fixtures, &c. &c. in and about the Manufactory, together with the Good-Will of the several Trade, Patterns, Books, and other Appendages thereto.....' All that capital well-known Steam Rolling Mill, situate in Snow-hill, Birmingham, comprising a very compleat Steam Engine, in perfect Order, an Engine House, a Rolling Mill, compleatly fitted up with Rolls, a very extensive Building, occupied by Polishers, a Dwelling Houle and Warehouse for the Engineer, a Casting Shop with three Furnaces, a very compleat Shop for making Roman Vitriol, an Acconmpting-house, with commodious Warehouse adjoining, and a large upper Store Room. ..... For a View of the Premises, and for further particulars, apply at Mr. Bedford's Office, in New-street, or the Auctioneer, in Dale End, Birmingham.'[4]
