Chester Road Swing Bridge

Carries the A5060 Chester Road over the Manchester Ship Canal at Lower Walton, south of Warrington.

This was the third swing bridge encountered when travelling eastwards on the canal, the first being Old Quay Swing Bridge (Runcorn), followed by Moore Lane Swing Bridge. Stockton Heath Swing Bridge (Wilderspool Causeway) and Latchford (Northwich Road) Swing Bridge are a short distance upstream, and Moore Lane Swing Bridge is downstream.

Its dimensions were almost identical to those of Moore Lane Swing Bridge, located just 1.5 miles downstream.

Constructed by William Arrol and Co, with hydraulic equipment by Armstrong, Mitchell and Co.
