Christiana Rose

From Graces Guide

c.1793 Born, daughter of one of the original partners in the Old Foundry, Hull, Duncan Campbell.

1840 Mrs Christiana Rose lived in Cannon St, Hull[1]. She took over the Old Foundry.

1851 Christiana Rose was an iron and brass founder employing 50 men, lived in Sculcoates with her daughter Susan and son-in-law John Thompson[2]

1859 she employed James Downs as manager.

1861 Living in Sculcoates, an iron founder, employing 88 men and 13 boys[3]

1871 Christiana Rose 77, widow, an iron founder, living in Hull with her married daughter Susan Thompson 48, and grandson J C Thompson 17[4].

She made James Downs a partner, when presumably the firm became Rose and Downs

1871 Christiana died. Her executors were William Johnston of Hull, a hosier, and Milson Rhodes, of Glasgow, a commission agent[5].
