CLAUDE SINCLAIR TAYLOR who died on the 16th March, 1941, after a short illness, was born on the 11th October, 1885, and was educated at Seaford College, Sussex, and later at Battersea Polytechnic.

He received his practical training with the Erith Council Traction, Lighting and Power Department, after which he obtained an appointment in 1905 with the Watford Municipal Electricity Department, with whom he remained until he was appointed Chief Assistant Engineer to the Hendon Electric Supply Co. in 1910.

In February, 1912, he was appointed Deputy Engineer and Manager to the Hankow Light and Power Co., and in March, 1913, he joined the staff of the Shanghai Municipal Electricity Department, with whom he remained until its sale to the Shanghai Power Co. in 1929, when he was appointed Vice-President and General Manager of that company.

In 1932 he relinquished that position and returned to England where, until the time of his death, he acted as consulting engineer and purchasing agent for the Shanghai Power Co.

He was keenly interested in The Institution, which he joined as a Student in 1907, and of which he was elected an Associate Member in 1912 and a Member in 1923. He was a founder member of the China Centre, of which he acted for several years as Hon. Secretary and later as Chairman. As Past-Chairman of the Centre he served for a number of years on the Council and was also a member of various Committees.
