1933 Mills to re-open. 'Hopes are entertained in Great Harwood that Clayton-street Mill, formerly run by the Great Harwood Commercial Co., which was bought recently by the former manager of the mill, will be running again shortly. The new owners, a small group of local men, who took a plunge to save the factory from the breaking-up process, have not yet taken possession, but as soon as they do so, it is hoped to restart the mill quickly. The machinery is intact, but nothing definite can be done until the transfer to the new owners is completed. Hundreds of cotton operatives, many whom have been out of work for a long time, have already applied for work. So far one has been engaged. "We could have given work to two or three times as many people as the mill normally employed when full,” said Mr. F. Bolton, the former manager, to “Lancashire Daily Past ” reporter to-day. “We are anxious to get going as soon as possible, but until actually take possession we are unable to promise work to any operatives. We cannot, in fact, anything to the mill yet. I am hoping the transfer will have been completed in the next week or go, for then we shall be able to set to work in earnest. We shall start the machinery again as soon as it is possible.'[1]
