Cogload Junction Bridge

near Taunton, Somerset
An unusual steel truss girder bridge built in 1931. It is a flyover bridge taking the Bristol-Exeter line over the Taunton-Castle Cary line, avoiding the earlier rail crossing. The trusses are asymmetrical, an economical method of dealing with the considerable skew dictated by the need to have the flyover as close as practicable to the original route of the line.
The contractor for the junction alterations was Walter Scott and Middleton Ltd.
