1887 'A gigantic dynamo for the works of the Cowles Electric Smelting and Aluminium Company, at Stoke-on-Trent, is now in course of erection. The machine has been built by Messrs. R. E. Crompton and Co., of the Arc Works, Chelmsford, and will have a minimum capacity of 300,000 watts, requiring 500 horse power to drive it.'[1]
