1952 A majority interest was acquired by Howardsgate Trust Ltd[1] through the actions of Eric Crabtree who had an option to buy the shops cheaply.[2]

1954 On liquidation of the Howardsgate Trust, the shares in Cresta Silks were transferred to its managing director, Eric Crabtree[3] when the assets of the trust were sold to Garfield Weston's ABC Foods[4]
