Mr David M. Semple (Member), a former Chairman of the Mirrlees Watson Co., died recently aged 78.

Mr Semple served his apprenticeship with James Abernethy and Co. of Aberdeen and from 1913 to 1924 held a number of posts with sugar firms in Hawaii and the Philippines, finally becoming General Manager of the Philippines Sugar Agency.

It was in 1934 that he was made Managing Director of Mirrlees Watson Co and Chairman in 1945.

A Member of the Institution since 1932 Mr Semple was also a Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.

It is with deep regret that the Institution records the death of this valued friend.
