1864 William Martin and Joseph Hodgson of the Dacca Mills, Manchester, developed improvements in steam engines.[1]

1865 'One is the working model of an improved steam engine, invented by Messrs. W. Martin and J. Hodgson, of the Dacca Mills, Manchester, and made by them from materials the gift of their employers.'[2]
