Danbury Tiles

From Graces Guide

Danbury Tiles is a division of Carter and Ward of Wickford Ltd

1954 Carter and Ward was formed as a building company.

The company started producing ready-mixed concrete and, to do so, went into gravel extraction, setting up Bradwell Aggregates. The gravel extraction process left the company with a surplus of sharp sand for which there was little demand and in order to use up this the company started making concrete roofing tiles

1968 Started to manufacture concrete roofing tiles at Danbury, near Chelmsford.

Most of Danbury's tiles were supplied to the private sector including Carter & Ward and its associated tile-fixing company, Mercury Roofing Ltd.
