1908N 'NEW MILL AT BOLTON. NAMING THE ENGINE. EMPLOYMENT FOR 350 OPERATIVES. That pleasant ceremony, affecting thousands of people in the neighbourhood of which it is performed —the naming of the engine of a a new mill - marked an intervening epoch in the life of Bolton on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large gathering at the new Dart Mill, at Tonge, on occasion of the naming of the engine by Deputy Mayor (Alderman T. B. Long). The engine, which is to provide power for 130,000 spindles, has been constructed by Messrs J. and W. McNaught, of Rochdaile, and is of the inverted, vertical triple expansion type, running 75 revolutions per minute, with a four feet stroke; the rope pulley site is 22in. for 33 ropes, l 5/8in. diameter. The weight of pulley is upwards of 30 tons, ....'[1]
