DAVID SIDNEY PAXTON was born on the 22nd May, 1884, and was educated at Whitgift School, Croydon, and the Finsbury Technical College.
He obtained his practical training from 1902 to 1905 at Halifax with Messrs. Hodgson Wright and Wood, and then went as a switchboard attendant at Croydon Electricity Works.
In 1906 he became an assistant charge engineer at Poplar Electricity Works, and in 1908 Engineering Assistant in the employ of Felten and Guilleaume-Lahmeyerwerke of Frankfort-on-Main.
Two years later he transferred to Messrs. Brown, Boveri and Co. on being appointed Estimating Engineer and Deputy Departmental Manager. In that capacity he superintended the preparation of tenders for power plant and the execution of contracts.
In 1915 he returned to this country and was appointed Departmental Manager at Manchester to Messrs. Drake and Gorham.
In 1922 he was appointed Branch Manager at Manchester to British Brown Boveri, Ltd., a position which he held until March, 1932, when he went abroad to become Manager for India of Messrs. Daniel Adamson and Co. This position he retained until his death on the 15th September, 1940. He was a prominent engineer and his notes on various engineering topics were published from time to time in the technical journals. His untimely death was a loss not only to his firm but to the engineering fraternity in India.
He joined The Institution in 1902 as a Student, and was elected an Associate Member in 1910 and a Member in 1932.
