1978 ICI decided to close their Titanium plant (capacity 3,600 TPA) which was 25 years old and needed significant investment.

1982 Opening of the 5,000 tonne a year plant at Deeside, North Wales, which was owned by Rolls-Royce (20%), Billiton UK (62.5%) and IMI Titanium (17.5%), built on 50 acres of land acquired from British Steel Corporation.[1]
