Deville and Co

Established by James Deville (1777- 1846), who was born in Hammersmith, London and was the grandson of a Swiss refugee. From c.1817 he collaborated with Alexander Gordon (1802-1868) (the son of David Gordon (1774-1829) ) on numerous lighthouse projects. These included the old Cape Point lighthouse and Roman Rock Lighthouse in South Africa. He was better known as a Phrenologist. He died at 367 The Strand, London. DeVille & Co continued in business under his daughter Jane, and was still trading in 1899. [1]
