DOUGLAS UPTON died on August 27, 1915, at the age of sixty-two.
He was a member of the firm of Upton & Gourlay, iron and steel merchants, of Middlesbrough.
Prior to starting in business on his own account in 1910, he occupied the position of manager to the South Durham Steel and Iron Co., Ltd. of Stockton-on-Tees, and to Palmer's Shipbuilding and Iron Co. Ltd., at their Jarrow Works.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1879.
At the Sheffield meeting in 1905 he read a short paper before the Institute describing a new form of apparatus for manipulating steel bars.
