DOUGLAS WILSON was for fifteen years on the staff of the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company, Ltd., at Trafford Park, Manchester, and was principally engaged on the design of power station. plant.
He was born at Alton, Hants, and received his technical education at Manchester Technical School and the Polytechnic, Regent Street, London. In 1893 he commenced his apprenticeship with Messrs. J. D. Leigh and Company, of Patricroft, but left three years later and completed his training with the Blackman Ventilating Company, London. He joined Messrs. T. E. Kershaw, engineers and ironfounders, of Nuneaton, in 1899, and was responsible for the drawings and the execution of all design details fora large steam engine of special design. During the next four years he was employed as a draughtsman by various important firms, including the British Electrical Engineering Company, Ltd., and the Sturtevant Engineering Company, Ltd.
In 1904 he was appointed chief draughtsman to Messrs. Heenan and Froude, Ltd., of Manchester, and several years later he joined Messrs. Meldrums, Ltd., in a similar capacity, and superintended the erection of a large refuse destructor for Penang Municipality. He had considerable experience in the design of boiler plant, and for many years he was a regular contributor to the technical press.
Mr. Wilson, whose death occurred in Bournemouth on 23rd September 1937, in his sixty-third year, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1910.
