Early 1950s: In response to ICI's move into the USA, DuPont’s Organic Chemical Department laid plans to enter the British rubber market by building a neoprene plant.

1957 DuPont UK Ltd. started building the plant on a former naval airfield at Maydown, seven miles from Londonderry.

1968 Maydown started to manufacture Orlon

1969 Started production of Lycra

Started manufacture of Hypalon.

1988 Maydown started production of Kevlar®

2012 Maydown was one of only four Kevlar plants in the world, and the only one in Europe.
