EDWARD BAYLIES THORNHILL, born in London in 1841, died at Colwyn Bay on the 31st August, 1911.
After studying under the late Dr. William Pole, he joined the staff of the London and North Western Railway Company in 1862, remaining in their service for the rest of his life. He was a Resident Engineer for 15 years, became Chief Assistant Engineer in 1879, and succeeded Mr. Francis Stevenson as Chief Engineer in 1902, retiring 7 years later.
He was responsible for the widening work at Euston, the new Garston dock, and other important works.
Mr. Thornhill was elected a Member of The Institution on the 3rd May, 1870.
