Engineer to the Duke of Devonshire.

Aged 40 started work for the Duke at Hardwick and took charge of the waterworks at Chatsworth.

He carried out water supplies to Beeley, Edensor, Pilsley, Bubnell, Ashover, Hathersage.

He regulated the mill power of the Wye at Bakewell and Ashford, built weirs across the Wye at Derwent, and constructed a large compensation reservoir at Monsal Dale. [1]
