Eastbourne Gas Co

1857 Formed by Deed of Settlement. The original area of supply was the town and parish of Eastbourne and the parish of Willingdon; the works was in Eastbourne.

1868 The company was dissolved and reincorporated by Act of Parliament. A new works was built in Willingdon and the original one closed.

1880 The Eastbourne Gas Act 1880 extended the supply area

1909 The Eastbourne Gas Act 1909 empowered the company to purchase the Hailsham Gas Company and to extend the area of supply.

1924 The area of supply was further extended by the Eastbourne Gas Order 1924.

1934 The purchase of the Seaford Gas Company was authorized by the Eastbourne Gas Order 1934 and the area of supply further extended.

1949 On nationalisation the undertaking became part of the Sussex Divison of SEGB.
