1842 'CORRESPONDENCE. SMOKE PREVENTED. To the Editor of the Leeds Times. .... The Patent Argand Furnace, of C. Wye Williams, Esq. has been applied by us at Edge Fold Colliery, Worsley, to two furnaces of a pumping engine, having a hay stack, or round boiler, and a waggon boiler. Formerly with these, only sufficient steam was obtained; since the alteration, the engine has been worked with the round boiler alone, and the steam more speedily got up and blowing off. .... We are, sir, Your obedient Servants, DIRCKS and CO. Manchester'[1]
