1845 Advert: 'PUBLIC SALE OF Valuable Machinery and Tools, Self-acting Slide Lathes, Planing Machine, Wheel Cutting Engine, Vertical Drilling Machine, &c. &c.
The Subscribers are instructed to Sell, by Auction, in No. 33 Great Hamilton-Street, on Thursday and Friday, 24th and 25th April,
THE whole VALUABLE MACHINERY and TOOLS in said Premises (belonging to the Trust Estate of Mr. Edward Crawford, Engineer and Millwright), comprising Seven Self-acting Slide Lathes,with Iron Beds, heads from 12 to 16 inches, one 16-inch do. with 30-inch Scroll Chuck and Gearing for cutting Volutes for Scroll Chucks, one 12-inch do. with long Iron Bed and 17-feet Screw, fitted for Screw Cutting, one pair 9-inch, and 2 pair 6-inch Latheheads on long Wooden Beds, Plain and Scroll Chucks, 16-inch Self-acting Slide Lathe, Scroll Chucks, and Iron Lathe Bed, nearly finished, etc.; Planing Machine, with Set of Tools, Bolts, &c.; Wheel Cutting Machine, with complete Set of Change Wheels, 100 Wheel Cutters, and extra Implements; Vertical Drilling Machine, with Bits; Grinding Stones, Main and Counter Gearing, with Drums, &c.; Buff Polishers, Blowing Fanners, Screw Stocks, Swey, Steelyard, Vices, Anvils, and a complete assortment of Smiths’ and Engineers’ Tools, about 50 dozen Files, Screw Nails and Bolts, Bar, Hoop, and Rod Iron; Patterns for Turning Lathes, Screwing Machine, Self-acting Mule and Twister, Looms, Drilling Machine, Scroll Chucks, Drums.Wheels, Pulleys, &c.; Office Furniture, including Double Desk, Railing, Counter, Grate, &c. Gas Meter and Pipes, Timepiece, Hurley Barrow, Newfoundland Dog, &c. &c.
The above were principally selected from those at Deanston Works when the Mechanical department there was broken up; and, from the known character of Mr. Crawford as a first-rate Machine Maker, it may confidently asserted that this is the best collection of Machinery and Tools brought to Auction for many years.
Catalogues are in preparation, and may be had on and after Wednesday, 16th April.
