EDWARD DODSON was born on 24th December 1841, at Handsworth Hall, near Sheffield; and began business in 1865 with Mr. W. Lawson Austin, under the style of Austin and Dodson, steel and file manufacturers, Cambria Works, Sheffield.

He continued to take an active part in the business until his death, which took place at his residence at Rutledge on 16th February 1883, after a short illness, in the forty-second year of his age. He because an Associate of the Institution in 1882.
