EDWARD FOY was born on 22nd January 1877, and received his education and training in Manchester.
After the ten years from 1891 to 1901, in drawing-office work and shop practice, he entered the employment of the Clayton Aniline Co., Ltd., with whom he remained for about twelve years, becoming chief draughtsman and works engineer.
In 1913 he joined the Ergite Explosives Company, Limited, of Penrhyndeudraeth, North Wales, as chief engineer, and when that factory was taken over by the Ministry of Munitions during the War he held successively the positions of chief draughtsman and constructional engineer, works manager, and chief engineer.
At the close of the War, when the Government disposed of the business, Mr. Foy remained in charge during the transfer to the Company - Cooke's Explosives, Ltd. - which acquired the property. When the new proprietors, at the end of 1921, commenced their scheme of reconstruction, Mr. Foy was appointed to take charge of operations, and he remained with the Company until shortly before his death which occurred at his home in Penrhyndeudraeth on 6th November 1924.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1919.
