1859 Born in Wallasey, the son of John McInnes, an anti-fouling paint manufacturer and his second wife Elizabeth Thomson

1861 Residing at Poulton Com Seacombe, Cheshire: John McInnes (age 52 born Scotland), Prohibitor Composition for Ships. With his wife Elizabeth, Daughter Emma and sons John A. McInnes (age 4 born Chester Seacombe), Edward McInnes (age 1 born Chester Seacombe). Also his sister Ellen McInnes (age 38), an Artist Painter.[1]

1871 Residing at Church Street, Wallasey: John McInnes (age 62 born Scotland), Manufacturer of Composition for Iron Ships. with his wife Elizabeth, daughters Emma (age 21) and Mary (age 8), and sons John A. McInnes (age 14 born Liscard, Cheshire), Edward McInnes (age 11 born Liscard, Cheshire) and Alexander McInnes (age 7 born Liscard, Cheshire). Also his niece Louisa Hunt.[2]

1881 Residing at Heath Bank, Wallasey: John McInnes (age 73 born Scotland), Manufacturer of Composition for Bottoms of Iron Ships. With his wife Elizabeth, Daughters Emma (age 32) and Mary (age 18) and sons Edward McInnes (age 21 born Wallasey), China Manufacturer and Alexander McInnes (age 17 born Wallasey).[3]. NB Edward had become a china manufacturer - perhaps his father had invested in Crown Derby on his behalf?
