1927 'ILKESTON WILL. IRONMASTER LEAVES £129,000. Mr. Edward Prosser Davis, of 14, Wilton-crescent, Belgrave Square, London, chairman of directors of the Bennerley Iron Company, Ltd., of Ilkeston, who died on January 31st, aged 74 years, son of the late W. S. Davis, of Tenbury, Worcestershire, has left estate of the value of £129,022 14s. 8d., with net personalty £120,749 7s. 1d. The will is proved by the National Provincial Bank, of 2, Princes-street, London, and Bernard Eric Davis, of Carleton, Bedford, son. He gives 20,000 preference shares and 8,000 ordinary shares in the Bennerly Iron Co., a house in Benton-road, The Park, Nottingham, property Blows Plain, Gretton, Northants, and land at Ilkeston to his son; £12,000 in trust for his daughter, Phyllis Comtesse V. de Merdy; his town house and furniture and the remainder of his freehold and leasehold premises to his wife; £2,000 each to his nephews, Charles Jansey Davis and Ralph Davis; an annuity of £50 to his niece, Isabel Waite; and £500 to Charles C. Marshall, manager of the Hunsbury Hill furnaces, Northampton. One half of the residue he leaves to his wife absolutely, and the other half in trust for her for life, and then for his son and daughter.'[1]
