Edward Steel Perkins (c1842-1909), a Surgeon

1909 July. Died. '...Deceased, who was educated Exeter School, which was then in the High-street, became a medical student at Charing Cross Hospital and qualified in 1876. Entering, into partnership with his father in 1879, he commenced his career the city as a medical practitioner, which he continued till was laid aside by illness three years ago. He succeeded to the freemanship of the city by inheritance on the death of his father. At one time he was a very active member of the Conservative Party, and fought their behalf several stiff municipal contests in the old St. Sidwell's Ward, which he represented the City Council for many years. He rendered excellent service on the Asylum, Sanitary and Museum Committees. He was at various times medical officer to the Exeter Oddfellows, the Conservative Equitable Benefit Society, and was honorary surgeon to the Devon and Exeter Female Home of Refuge, Holloway-street....'[1]
