Edward Tiley Lambert (1844-1908)

1909 Obituary [1]

EDWARD TILEY LAMBERT, of Telham Court, Battle, Sussex, who died suddenly on the 6th October, 1908, was the second son of the late Mr. Thomas Lambert, of Telham Court, also an old Associate of The Institution.

Born in 1844 he was educated at Rugby School, and in due course proceeded to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated in Arts. After leaving the University, he travelled in America and on the continent of Europe. He was then engaged in business with his father as a hydraulic and gas engineer, and subsequently becoming a partner, he took an active part in the engineering work of the firm.

He designed and built the Bari gasworks in Italy and was connected with various other gas undertakings in that country, besides possessing an interest in several engineering enterprises in England.

On the death of his father in 1881, he removed to Battle, and as a county gentleman, became prominently identified with many county and local interests. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1885 and served several local offices, taking latterly a keen interest in agriculture.

Mr. Lambert was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 5th December, 1871.
